If you're flying from Great Britain , by law you don't need a passport but if you're flying with Ryanair you'll still need one. From anywhere else you need a passport.

Check with the airline you are flying with. Different airlines have different regulations. It also depends where you are flying from. I think Ryanair will let you fly from the UK to Ireland with a driving license but you will need to double check this.
