Actually the answer is no strangely enough. No dairy or meat product is supposed to be taken onto the island from anywhere!! Though as many here have already said - they/we have all done it.

I was stopped by customs bringing cheese into Belfast International two years back.

It depends what country you're coming from. Anywhere within the EU is fine, When coming from some countries outside The E.U you have to fill out a declaration form of what your bringing in to the country including food and you may be stopped wheter you declare it or not, but its still very unlikely that they'd take the food off you, depending on what it is, fruit, veg or meat from outside The E.U is a no no as far as Im aware.
