Can you travel to Dublin via N.Ireland if your driving down and are on a Indian passport with Residence permit? |
will you need a visa, for an indian passport holder if you driving to N. ireland and then onwards to Dublin via road. you possess a UK driving licence and have been in the UK under HSMP visa for quite a few years now. You will enter Ireland via Belfast and come back out of Ireland via belfast. ( it is a short holiday trip for 3-4 days) |

You should have a tourist visa for Ireland. However, as there are no border checks or controls and as you long as you do not get in trouble with the police, you are unlikely to encounter any problems.
Having said that, if you DO have trouble with the police (involvement in a traffic accident etc), you can be deported and the UK authorities are entitled to revoke your visa. Only you can decide if you want to run the risk. |

If you are visit Northern Ireland you will be ok as you have a UK visa.
However if you are visiting the South of Ireland you will need a seperate visa as it is not part of the UK and there are random checks on the border.
If you have been granted UK citizen status then you can visit the South of Ireland. For further info visit:

Your UK visa entitles you to live & work in the UK that includes Northern Ireland but the Republic of Ireland is a separate country, you not covered by any treaties, laws, etc, etc, covering British citizens, you will need a separate visa to enter the Republic of Ireland.
Other people will tell you the course of action you've outlined in your question is fine, go ahead but I would strongly advise you to get a visa to enter the Republic of Ireland but if you wish to follow the course of action you've outlined in your question then that is up to you. |

Crystal C had the closest to a precise answer so far. I used to live in Dublin and had a girlfriend in Newry. By car, I was never stopped, but if I was on the bus, on many occasions I was asked for passport by Garda (Irish Police), just after crossing the border. There are no controls going up, but going to the Republic you may be asked, if you are travelling by bus. If you're driving, need not worry. |

there are no customs to check your passport on the border but get a visa anyway |
