I was in England in July for 2 weeks on holidays and like you I have a bank of ireland current account card but no visa mastercard or maestro. I am sorry to tell you that you can't use ordinary cards in England. They will accept the other two that you don't have. |

It needs to have a Cirrus sign on the back if it to use it in ATM machines. If you only have a bog standard ATM card you will need to ask the bank for a Cirrus one that you can use abroad. Theres no charge so I really dont know why they just dont make them all like that instead of standard ones. Check the back of your card for two interlocking blue circles with Cirrus written across them. Even with this sign you cant use them in all machines but most will take them. |

Yes, you can use it in ATMs if it has the Cirrus logo on it. |

I have used by regular BOI card in England Sweden Denmark Spain, France, Morocco, Egypt, Australia, Singapore, Bahrain, China Hong Kong and Macao. Just make sure it has the Cirrus symbol on it (2 little blue circles at the back) if not, go to your branch and request that they exchange it for a Cirrus one - should only take 3 days or so |

If it isn't a Visa, MasterCard or Maestro what is it?
If it's a current account card I'd recommend checking your bank's website or give them a ring on Monday.
If you can take money out of the Hole in the wall here it's more than likely that you'll be able to use it across the water but it's better to be safe rather than sorry. |

I assume you're talking about a card issued in the Republic of Ireland rather than Northern Ireland. A card issued in Northern Ireland will of course be fine anywhere in the UK.
If the bank card is labelled CIRRUS or PLUS then it should work in any ATM that carries this logo.
Debit cards labelled Visa Debit, Visa Electron, or Maestro should also be valid. (Maestro can sometimes be tricky, I've heard - some shops will only accept UK-issued Maestro cards, although using it in ATMs should be fine.) |

as long as it has the Visa Mastercard or Maestro sign on it then the answer is yes |

No, you can't use an ordinary cash card in the UK - you could years ago but they changed that.
I would check with the Bank before you go to see if they have alternative arrangements in place for withdrawing cash in the UK. There are branches of Bank of Ireland but there are very few and are usually a pain in the backside to get to.
I don't know if this is any good to you but you can use AIB cash cards in the UK. |
