Here’s a site which gives you the prices for all the companies (Alamo, Advantage, Atlas, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Europcar, Hertz, National, Sixt, Thrifty):

You should try Budget...I've used them before, and the prices are pretty reasonable...also I've always been upgraded when I get there!! |

I've been to Ireland twice, both times using Europcar. The last time I went, we rented and returned the car at Murray's Europcar at the Baggot Street Bridge which is east of the city center, near one of the canals. Both times we rented with them, the car was brand new, clean, and we had no problems. |

Honestly, I just came back from Ireland and spent 1.5 weeks in the country and 1.5 weeks in the city. You do need the car in the country, and I would recommend Budget Car Rental. We got 10,000 miles on this well-running car, and extended our return date with no problem at all. Even though we got it at the Shannon airport, we were able to return it to the Knock airport 10 minutes away, instead of the 3 hour car ride back to the Shannon airport.
However, in the city, we did not use the car. We took the bus every day, and it was only .90 cents for children and 1.10 Euro for adults. The bus takes you everywhere, and you walk around most of the city, or take other buses.
Have fun!! |

For months I researched car rentals for my trip to Ireland. Stay away from the Big Named Agencies, such as Atlas, Budget and Hertz. God, are they expensive. I went with Irish Car Rentals. They were extremely courteous, the car was fantastic (a little pricy but that's because I really needed an automatic). Check it out for yourself - the standard cars were I thought very reasonably priced. It's a free call here in the USA: 1 877 347 3227 - open 8am ET - 6pm ET |

I usually use Avis when I'm in Ireland; not the cheapest I think, but a good service and good cars |

I've used Dan Dooley and liked the service too.
But the most important fact about renting a car in Ireland is to opt for a stick shift rather than an automatic. it will take a little getting used to if you've always used your right arm to shift gear but, since you'll find you're saving so much, your learning curve will not be an annoyance. |

I'm going to Ireland in late Nov. I rented a automatic from Hertz for a week $299.00 USD. I always use Enterprise but they didn't have any automatics. I can drive a manual but was told if I have never driven on the left, I should get a automatic. |

Dan Dooley rent a car.

Although I have read to get the best price you should rent in Dublin to avoid the airport convience tax. |

I strongly agree with these suggestions. I have rented cars in Ireland a number of times and Budget is the best deal. You will get a relatively new car in decent condition. Budget is even rather forgiving for minor bumps and scrapes. One hint, get a manual rather than an automatic. Practice in the parking lot if you're not used to using one. It will be about half the price. |
