Cheapest places to live in Ireland?

My husband and I are thinking of moving to Ireland from England to find better jobs. Unfortunately we have little cash right now, so we need to find a place to live that won't throw us into debt right away. But we also need to be in a place that allows us to commute reasonably, if the place we're living in is rather small. (I'm talking about the Republic, btw.)

To be honest, you'd be better off to stay in Britain for now, as the number of unemployed in Ireland is rising by the day. But if you insist on living in Ireland, live near the border, as it is much cheaper to shop in Northern Ireland. Oh and if your wondering about Podge, well they are dirty puppet comedians that are on the telly every Tuesday. Hope this helps!! :-)

well to answer your question, outside of dublin is a lot cheaper than dublin. dublin is ridiculously expensive.
Also to echo other people, now is a bad time. Unemlployment has risen and is still on the rise. There's backlogs of weeks to get the dole, cos theres so many people signing on.
At least wait til after xmas ..things mite be better then.

Podge and Rodge Tribute Band
Was timing ever one of your strong points?
We only say this because it's a bad time to be moving here. Unemployment is on the rise and so are prices so you'd be better off staying put, unless you and your husband want to work as farmhands for us here in Ballydung. Only thing is, you'll have to sleep in the barn with the Brazilians and Lithuanians.

Edit:
I surely am proud of being a jerk Prickles!
Keep 'em coming, it's like water off a duck's back!

ireland is in a worse situation than uk if you have jobs good luck to you renting property is at a par with uk but with the pound being very weak against euro the cost of living is more expensive. galway is Beautiful

Me and my wife we are thinking of moving to England from Ireland to find better jobs. My friends did it and they are happy. No one is happy at the moment in Ireland. Ireland suffers, recession is underway. England is in a better situation

Tipperary!!!!

Up to mighty London came an Irishman one day,
As the streets are paved with gold, sure ev'ryone was gay;
Singing songs of Piccadilly, Strand and Leicester Square,
Till Paddy got excited, then he shouted to them there:

Chorus:
"lt's a long way to Tipperary,
It's a long way to go;
It's a long way to Tipperary,
To the sweetest girl I know!
Good-ye, Piccadilly!
Farewell, Leicester Square!
It's a long, long way to Tipperary,
But my heart's right there! "

Paddy wrote a letter to his Irish Molly O,
Saying, "Should you not receive it,
Write and let me know!
If I make mistakes in spelling, Molly dear," said he
" Remember it's the pen that's bad,
Don't lay the blame on me."

Molly wrote a neat reply to Irish Paddy 0.
Saying. "Mike Mahoney wants to marry me, and so
Leave the Strand and Piccadilly, or you'll be to blame
For love has fairly drove me silly, hoping you're the same!"
