Cheapest way to own a house in ireland? |
I'm thinking of the cheapest way possible. I still have to buy a little bit of land somewhere along the border. And buy a log cabin or a American style mobile home. From what little research that i wave done. It would be around 3000.00 Euro to have electric and telephone lines fitted. I'm not interested in a caravan. Something nice and simple. But most important , Cheap |

Sorry Alicia, try another country, one thing Ireland ain't is cheap. A site could cost anything up to 150K, then to build, even cheaply could be 140K, and then there's your connection fees, which you've done your research for, your much better off buying a ready built house. Try stay away from Apartments, cos there's management fees annually. Some new houses may have them too, just be sure to ask.
www.daft.ie, it will have all the houses/apartments/sites etc. and each property will have the Auctioneers details. Ireland is in a huge slump at the moment, DO NOT give the asking price, I got 25K off my house, it also depends where you wanna live, prices depend on area too. If you find an area you like, just come back on here and we'll tell ya! |

You will get land for relatively cheaply in the border areas but planning permission may be difficult to get. Your best bet might be an existing house in run down condition that needs TLC and modernisation.

might be what you're after (and they're not viruses!)
In general, it is extremely difficult to get planning permission for log cabins. Mobile homes not so much, but usually only if you are submitting a planning application for a new house. The county council website of your desired location will have all the relevant info e.g. http://www.leitrimcoco.ie |

LARISSA"S LINK IS A VIRUS!
Priscilla Duck lives in Ireland. I remember her saying that to buy land, you have to have a link to that particular community, or work nearby. I was looking up real estate on
http://www.daft.ie/searchsale.daft?search=1&s[cc_id]=c8&s[a_id]=&s[mnp]=&s[mxp]=150000&s[bd_no]=&s[ftb]=1&s[search_type]=sale&s[furn]=&s[refreshmap]=1&offset=110&limit=10&search_type=sale&offset=120 .
It looks as though land sites alone are quite pricey. Another point that Priscilla made was that Ireland is also in a recession and perhaps in six months you may get a deal on a house. A mobile home, or log cabin will look ridiculous in Ireland. The community may have you remove it. Then you'll have blown a lot of money. Check out the site, for buying apartments, town-homes, and small houses. From the research I've done, necessities in Ireland cost more than in the UK. I don't imagine it's a cheap place to live. |
