for all uk numbers its 0044 but if your friend is just up there on hols and has an irish number you should edit their number and put 00353 before the 87 86 or 85 always drop the 0 from the 087 086 or 085. If it's a uk moby i think it should be 0044 but check with the operator or phone book or ring your service provider and ask them.

If you are phoning someone in N.Ireland from the Republic, the prefix is 048
But if you are texting them, the prefix for UK mainland 0044 is used.
The rest of the number is the usual mobile number.

Yes it will cost you money unless less you're on a specific roaming contract.

Oliver
I think you use the normal phone number i never had to do that and it should't cost more than a normal text but idk.

It's 0044 and then take of the first 0 of the number you want to call (eg the number is 071234567 so you call 004471234567).

It costs about 40c I think but register your phone online and use webtext. It is free to text all countries around the world!!

you drop the first 0 and add 00353 , i live in northern ireland and im on 02, i have free texts and i text someone who is normally on 02 uk, i get it free, but if i text someone who lives down south and has a ireland network, then it costs like 25p!

If the telephone number is entered in the format, +44..., then that's all you need. If it's an Irish Republic phone that you're texting, then no code is required.

As a general rule all phone numbers on a mobile should be entered to the phonebook in international format, wherever you are. So a UK registered phone will start +44..., an Irish Republic phone +353..., a US or Canadian phone +1..., etc. Then you'll never get a number wrong. When you're in the home country the phone automatically ignores the country code.

As for cost, I don't know. I have a T-Mobile contract and it costs me 20p per international text.
