Rain, cost of living, lying politicians and ignorance/racism. See all the posts in this thread about "non-nationals". Yep our schools are bursting at their seams. That's because our scabby two-faced government have repeatedly lied and reneged on their promises of more teachers, buildings etc, while at the same time closing down many schools for special needs pupils and sending them into mainstream schools (I'm totally in agreement with this in principle) without the support they would have received in these schools (1 teacher for every 6-8 pupils, special needs assistants, suitable facilities etc). I know this first-hand, I'm a teacher, I experience it everyday. The children from other countries who have arrived in my class over the last few years have been some of the hardest working, brightest, most willing to try anything kids I've ever met, with the most interested and concerned parents. Wish the same could be said for all my native Irish parents!

Right that rant over, pros of living here outweigh the cons!

Biggest drawback is that it's become so expensive, I think.

Elaine And Manus
The Weather is the biggest drawback and the how expensive it has become. Also I think that us Irish have become a very rude nation, we are not the friendly country we once were. Can you believe I was in a department store recently and the guy behind the counter (he was Irish!) did not open his mouth once to me. Even to tell me how much my items had come to. I know people say that Americas are OTT with friendlness in shops but its better than not been spoken to at all.

far too many non nationals we are over loaded and bursting at the seams and can hardly cope schools are completely overcrowded some people have no places for their children at all.there is a massive housing crisis as a result,we are becoming second class citizens in our own country as in answer given by telestmondestin yes we left our own shores but as a matter of fact were treated as second class citizens where ever we went not give houses jobs or anything else over the people whose countries we went to big big big difference!!!!get your facts straight!

I would probably say the cost of living can be expensive. Also, there are not a lot of good clothing shops.

If you're looking for a con, just look at the racism in this thread! Unfortunately a lot of Irish people seem to forget their own history. Until as recently as the 1990s, Ireland was a net exporter of people. Immigration was huge and there aren't many people on the island who have not experienced this to some extent - be it directly on indirectly, through family members or friends. Now there's a bit more wealth in the economy however everyone seems to have forgotten this bleak period in our history and they're behaving like a pack of vultures. Why can't we learn from the past? Why not use our own bad experiences to create a more welcoming environment for immigrants.

Definitely how expensive it is, plus the weather, and nobody behind a counter understands you because your speaking English. (no offense, but is true)

Too many non Irish nationals in the service industries with no way of communicating with the natives. A new form of sign language has become the norm, people pointing and nodding and making strange noises and funny faces to make themselves understood.(and that's just to get a cup of tea in a cafe). But its still the best place to live! We will just have to learn Polish, Swahili, Slovakian, and probably Russian also.
