Did 'Ballykissangel' accurately represent rural Ireland?

I know it's been a while!

hahaha no way. it was made by an english tv company and was just full of stereotypes. the only thing accurate really was the actors, who were irish. and the landscape, which was also irish!

It was a TV entertainment show, written to dramatise a fictional community.
Did Father Ted accurately represent the Catholic Church in rural Ireland ? I don't think so.
Does Coronation Street, Eastenders, Emmerdale really represent Manchester, London or Yorkshire ?
Make up your own mind.

Haha - no, it did not.

I have lived in rural Ireland for 8 years.

sarch_uk
I sincerely doubt it!

Sshhhh! It's Podge and Rodge
Yes it did.
Just as Far and Away accurately represented rural Ireland back in the day.

Of course not - it was as accurate as The Quiet Man or The Field as a representation. It was just a bit of fun.

Well no, seeing as we're not stuck in a time warp.

Generally TV shows are not representative at all, yet people believe them to be all the time.

i think it does represent it, i don't quite live in rural ireland, but not to far as i live in a small town, obviously rural ireland has changed a bit since then but i reckon it is still very similar to the program,as the other comment says about father ted, well obviously to make a priest house into a comedy there would have to be drastic changes. rural ireland is still the most backward place on the face of the earth!
