Not possible!!! He was too much of a murdering Puritan to have any Irish blood in him, plenty on his hands though.
I saw the end of that programme, yer man had the weirdest amalgamation of accents I ever heard, somewhere between Yorkshire Louth is my best bet. But at least he looked like he was enjoying a few pints while he annihilated Wexford. |

Cromwell was about as irish as vodka |

Well he did spend a good deal of time over here, with the sieges, slaughter and general shenanigans, but to be honest I think he'd be secretly glad, imagine being stuck with a Norfolk accent all your life! No wonder he was so angry.
Sorry I missed the show, hope it was good!

Edit: I love you too Doire. |

ukok above seems to be a victim of the English education system, ie- "the free people of the world wanted to be invaded, oppressed, starved, killed, politically and socially abused in their own countries, it's MUCH better for them under English Occupation"
Please, if the English keep reminding Germany of their wrongs, why can't they face up to their own ??
Good program last night. |

they wont show that on the national geographic channel or the history channel.
They always whitewash over cromwell in ireland. It was a good programme
Better than some of the russian accents on fair city.
The guy who played cromwell was called owen roe. Funny how owen roe ui neale was the irish chieftain at that time.
Oliver's army are here to stay la la la lala la la .......
well deserving of the top contributers badge lads, ye always have the best questions |

When I lived away my American workmates were obsessed with tracing their Irish roots. We had an English colleague from East Anglia who was pretty sure he was related to Cromwell. His favourite interjection on the genealogy thing was, "I don't have any Irish blood IN me, but I'm pretty sure I've got Irish blood ON me". And he survived working there too. |

If true, not really that crazy, its only the nationalists of the union that didnt want to be part of it, (this era was pre-ireland as we know it) many were quite happy to be part of an enlarged and powerful united kingdom with all the benefits that this brought, many 'irish men, scotsmen, welshman, benefited from and gave lots to the union in years gone by. |
