Did anybody on here do transition year in Ireland?

I loved it when I did it
I made a huge amount of friends from the my year that I wouldn't usually of spoken to before( this really made going into 5th year and having classes mixed up much easier as I knew more ppl)
Also I was completing stuff that sounds impressive that I can now use in college interviews
For example I passed some kind of computer course thing that shows I'm able to work some kind of software thing (I could make that sound more hi-tech but I can't remember the name and couldn't be bothered to root out my CV that I put it on)

More then that it was just a fun year were I got to know teachers better then I would in just normal class time which means they now go easier on me in class because they actually know me
And I loved all the extra classes (Japanese, psychology etc.) we got to do and all the trips that we went on
And in my school we didn't have any exams at the end of the year, sometimes we got class tests but nothing that was really stressful!

But then again my friend did it and hated it
I think it all depends on the school you go to and how they handle it
My friends school didn't do any extra classes and they had the usual Christmas and summer exams
So if you're trying to decide to do it or not I advise asking about it at your school and finding out what kind of things it organises for TY

I think it's really important. I'm in leaving cert and some girls that skipped transition into my year are way more immature than the rest,and some don't reach their potential because they're not ready. I really 100% advise you to do,plus it's really fun and work experience is essential!!

No, its not.
Firstly, you learn about all the differing subjects and so can decide what *actually* suits you, and secondly you are that bit more mature entering the leaving cert.
The average former transition year student will do better than the average student overall in the leaving.

I did Transition year and it most definitely is not a waste of a year.
After 3 years studying for the Junior Cert, It's great to have a bit of fun and a laugh and basically a break from the books.
It was compulsory in my school but if it wasn't I would have still done it anyway.

statistics also show that people who did transition year get higher points in the leaving.

I'd advice you to do transition, You'll have the time of your life plus you meet loads of new people.

Yep...I did, - well had no choice as it was compulsary in my school... but we did lots of good subjects, went on trips & really got to know all the rest of the girls in my year we were bearly in school that year anyway because it was the year of the teachers strike and also the year of foot and mouth....so we had loads of days off!so im glad that year was transition year ...would have been crap if it was an important year!

i havnt done it yet but im going to do it next year...
it is more or less a fun year...nd after the j.c. thats what i need!!
its sounds like mad craic....well thats what i heard from the other people in my school that done it....
but it is better if you do it with your friends cze it wont b as much fun....but then again u make LOADS of new friends!
you get to go on loads of school tours....the ones last year in my school got to go to SPAIN!!
i cant wait to the work experience either.....
it just sounds class.....

It depends on the school but nowadays most schools are good. When I did it it was a complete waste but even in my school the years after mine were far more organised and it seems to be pretty good. Ask about the "curriculum" in your school and base your decision on that if you can choose.

i didnt do it, but if my situation was different i certainly would have

i go to a fairly small school TY only had 6 people in it and the teacher in charge was'nt the best.

Although some of the girls in my year moved to another school and did TY, and thought it was fantastic, infact even the people in my school thought it was brill

they did work expericene, got to go to spain, entered all kinda of competations, started there own mini company, organised so many events, and so much more

I'm doing it right now!
It's the best year of my life! My mini-company made it through to the county finals, we had an exchange programme with Italians, we're going to Rome, Barcelona, and OakWood soon! I'm learning Spanish! I help disadvantaged kids with homework! Work exp. is great! I'm going to German college soon! And so much more! If I was to tell you all I'm doing I'd be here forever!

TY is what YOU make it, so if you're the type of person to work, and you like projects, do it!

yep i did it!
It was complusory in my school, so if you didn't want to do it you had to move schools. I thought the year in my school wasn't very well organised and we didn't really do that much other than the gaisce award. But i'm really glad i did otherwise i'd have been 16 finishing my leaving cert, which i think is way too young. but also it was a great time for socialising and having fun.It was really nice not to have the stress of exams and be relaxed enough to really enjoy hanging out at school and catching up with people, so i would recommend it. However a lot of people really didn't enjoy it!
