Yes you do. Our last one, bought in Nov 2005 cost us 155 euros.
Just in case you have any dogs....you will need a dog licence too.. we only got one for one of the dogs because he's a bit like houdini.....the licence cost us in Nov 2005 12.70 (12euro and 70 cents).
These licences need to be renewed each year. We haven't been home long enough to bother. |

Yes, one for each TV. (And it's called the Republic of Ireland, not southern Ireland!)
According to the Constitution of Ireland, Article 4: "The name of the State is Éire, or, in the English language, Ireland." Not Southern Ireland. |
|

dmIRL
|
Of course you do. Your supposed to have one for each TV but you should get away with just one. Dont go for too long without one because you will get caught... my da found that out the hard way. (and its called the Republic of Ireland, not southern Ireland) |

In The Republic Of Ireland you must have a Television licence if you have a television set even if you only use it to watch videos/DVDs..it the law. |

In the Republic of Ireland yes. Southern Ireland is not a designated political area so doesn't have its own set of rules. (Where you may be getting the terminology from is Northern Ireland. Northern Ireland is the name of one of the two countries that makes up the island of Ireland. The Northern part of the name should not be confused with being what geographical part of Ireland you are talking about. The 6 counties of the island that make up the country Northern Ireland are actually in the North East, the most northerly part of the island is actually part of the Republic!!!) |

By the way we call it the republic of Ireland and we have 26 counties. In these 26 counties you are required by law to have a TV licence which is required to be renewed every 12 months. The price at the moment for obtaining one is €158 which usually increases each year. You can purchase one in any post office in the republic of Ireland. If you don't you will be heavily fined by the TV inspector.
EDIT: For to say you must have a coloured TV licence for a coloured TV. |

yes you are required to have TV licence.
the price of obtaining one is 158 euro |

Yes, it will cost €158.
You can get away with it for a while though.
I had a nice period of time where I did not pay one myself because I think it is the biggest joke ever!
All that happened me, was the license guy called to the door...we told him that we did not have one. And all he did was give us 2 weeks to get one. So we did, he came back, inspected it...no questions asked.
If you can get away with it: do and don't worry...they are not that strict with late payments either!!!! |
|

rosie

Yes, you do. It costs about €130 per year. And don't try to watch television without it, it can cost you a lot more in fines and legal fees. |
