?
One to one on a personal basis the answers no,people are people after all.

What does drive irish around the bend is british triumphalism.
The irish have absolutely no give whatsoever when they hear the english go on about how great briton is.

HELL NO!!! the english are these so-called proper murdering savages, who hide behind etiquete and the crown. being an Irishman I would have to say no.

To quote the great Irish comedian Tommy Tiernan, "The English are good people in general but we like to see them defeated in things like soccer and war!"
I'm Irish living in England. I pay taxes in this country but I feel that the Irish living in England should be exempt from all taxes as an apology for 800 years of oppression!
To answer your question in one word ; NO. We hate the way the English speak (what a stupid accent), we hate their outdated views on just about everything and we hate their claim on 6 counties of OUR island,

The English are lovely people when they're sleeping. Stay asleep forever.

On a singular basis yes. But when they're in groups they tend to get on Irish people's nerves.

Also, as another poster pointed out it drives us mental when the English go on about how great they are. In terms of sport we do love to play them and beat them, but this hasn't happened in soccer since England played the Republic of Ireland at Landsdown road when English hooligans tore out seats and threw them at the Irish crowd. Whenever England plays a sport of any type we will support the opposing team, whoever they are. English people can't get their heads round this one, especially if its France or Germany they are playing.

But we do like them individually, it is when they are in groups be in small, large or nation sized they get on our nerves.

There are two types of people living in Ireland: Nationlists (Want to stay with Ireland) and uniounists (UK). Most of the trouble that remains today consists over Northern Ireland, who some believe should be a part of the Republic of Ireland. Slowly relasionships have improved but terrible tension and fighting did exist back in the 60's and 70's, such as the omagh bombing in belfast which murdred some innocent people. But no, in general today, both sides have fairly good relasionships.

Of course. =)
It's irrational to hate someone you don't know.

Historically, there is good reason to believe that Irish people hate the British. The British ruled Ireland for centuries, dividing and conquering the country with an iron fist. This only ceased in the earlier twientieth century and is still fresh in the minds of many, particularly elderly people.

Nowadays, attitudes are changing rapidly. While we will always enjoy a contest with the English, particularly in sport, the deep-rooted hatred is gone. Being our nearest neighbour and our major trading partner, we have to work with the English nation. In many respects they are like ourselves and our customs have often crossed and merged. We have nothing to gain in fostering hatred and they are keen to forgive and forget.

The Northern Ireland situation is more complex but thankfully at present, everyone is at peace and beginning to appreciate the diverse and rich traditions. The way forward is pluralist and through the democratic system.

You can find out some information about our culture and customs in my website, listed below.

All the best,

Peter

Here in America you hear a lot of grumblings about what the English have done; however, I think most of us like the English. Hey, you gave us Rugby, and Bass and Guinness make the perfect black and tan! I also admire the Royal Army, just not in Ulster thank you! So you're ok.
