yeah definitely! not everyone but a lot do.
i personally dont because thats in the past and the people in england now had no say in it.
i am fourteen and in school some people have 'tiocfaidh an la' written all over their copies and pencil cases and stuff. 'tiocfaidh an la' means the day will come (ireland will win back its 6 counties)
also, when ireland beat england in rugby or soccer or whatever, its always a lot sweeter.
some people think that england thinks that it is superior but i dont kno..

As an English person, I have made many visits to the Republic and have always been given courtesy and politeness but the Irish do not forget what had been done to their country. Like so many misdeeds perpetrated in the past (and present) by England, these are done by governments in our name even though the majority do not approve or condone these actions.
Most Irish people do not hold me personally responsible for the past actions of an aggressive and bloodthirsty government. |

No, although you will always find small minded bigots in any country, as some of the previous posts show. There are of course a small number of misguided souls who don't seem to be able to let go of the long legacy of abuse and misgovernance administered to us by Britain, and unfortunately, patriotic discourse has been hijacked by the Shinners and so you will find some Irish people for whom 'love of Ireland' = 'hatred of England', but thankfully these are in the minority. But hey, it was nearly 100 years ago, the vasy majority of us are over it.
I have also met a small number of English people who seem to hold a grudge against us Irish for gaining independence (and some would say for initiating the fall of the British empire). And some who seem to resent us being quite happy with ourselves and having a firm national identity which seems to be somewhat lacking in Ingerland. Sort of like an abusive partner who can't bear to see his ex getting on with her life without him. But these people too are in the minority, most adults who don't take 'The Sun' as their only source of education are able to get on quite well with people of any nationality. |

No.
We do, however, dislike being patronised in any way. |

I don't but there are people who do. The way I look at it is this is all part of our history so we can't forget it but we need to get on with it. The English did this in a lot of counties and some of them are in a bad state now. I don't mind English people but I don't like some of them who patronize us still. Very annoying. And I hate the way they call Ireland Eire. |

yes... but its not actually a grudge, i mean, how do yuo take revenge on the British Empire?
the English stole our family land, they stole our family castle and they treated us with contempt... so we did what we could, we had lots and lots of kids, which produced even more kids... and we all came to live in England, and screwed the state... and over the last 50 or so years, i recon weve had a few millions in accumulated benefits...
In Ireland we were landed gentry, and here in England were handed plenty... and all i can say is, what goes around... eventually bites you |

No we don't hold any grudges at all against them. And the English girls only love our accents. It's the only way we can get laid half the time....... |

No I don't because unlike Leanne L I know my country's history.
We did not struggle to get rid of the English for 800 years.
We fought for the King in the English Civil War for f*cks sake. |

some hold somewhat of a grude. am i happy that they are in my country? not particulary, but they are not bothering me. i'm just happy that the violence is over with. on the other hand, i know some who are furious that they occupy the north and want to take action for it |

I have a pretty good phrase when it comes to this:
Hate the country, not the people. I would never even consider being mean to anyone based on nationality, but I would never support England in a sports match. I have a second phrase too:
"Forgive, but not forget" |

Well I do! But that's mainly because all we study in history is how those fuc*ers oppressed us for 800 years and destroyed our culture. Landlords evicted starving families, the Black and Tans killed innocent people, all the signatories of the Proclamation Of The Irish Republic executed and thousands interned, your stubborness causing the civil war....the list goes on really... |

i do
and for priscilla duck
the sun is a comedy
i don't take it as my main form of news and info
also, while the occupation of the republic may have ended 100 years ago, the north is still being held. and even when we were breaking off, the managed to cheat us out of armagh and fermanagh.
and for that other man
i'm very intelligent
and i still hate england
almost all english people i have met have been rude, patronising and obnoxious to me
and i don't like the effect they've had on dublin
they're awful snobby to the rest of Ireland there. |
