Depends on who you fly with. Ryanair accept any government id, a passport or driving license basically, so long as the name on the id matches the name on the ticket (may be a problem if the driving license has a maiden name and the ticket has the married name as my mother found out!). Its airline policy. No harm bringing your passport to ireland anyway, handy form of ID wherever you end up! |

We have just got back from Ireland, and we were asked for our passports.
Security at the airports is very tight at the moment, so rather than risk it - take your passport.
On the return journey (back to UK) we were again asked to show our passports going into the boarding lounge, but we didn't have to go through passport control at Gatwick.

Ireland and UK is a 'Common Travel Area'.
You don't need a passport, but you do need some photo ID if you are travelling by air. Only a full driving licence is acceptable for UK citizens besides a passport.
You won't need any ID if you travel by ferry, but you may be asked to provide some proof of who you are by security at the ferryport which could delay your journey if you have no ID on you. |

Hi, You need photo ID, Driving License, Citizen Card, They say you don't need a passport, but i would check with the travel company you are travelling with because we were told you did need a passport. |

It depends how you get there. If you swim, you'll need nothing.
If you fly, you'll need some king of photoID to get through security at the airport. Bearing in mind you have to queue for ages to get to security, do you want to risk being turned away with your Driving Licence?
If you go on the ferry, a UK Photo Driving Licence will do. If you don't have one, it's back to swimming across. |

In theory you don't need a passport as we are all in EU now, but in practice if customs control is manned, you will be asked for it. If not (sometimes happens) just walk through. If you are lucky enough to look under 18, you may be asked for ID to buy cigarettes or alcohol (illegal under 18), or to enter some clubs where management have an age restriction. Put your passport in your pocket - it will be useful to have. And if you want to hire a car, you will be asked for it, as well as your driving licence.

Hi
I live in Northern Ireland and I can cross the border into Rep Of Ireland without having to stop therefore I don't need a passport. If you fly across you will need a passport but if you catch a ferry over you won't. |

Not for immigration purposes. There have been people who have been asked for identifiation for security purposes. Most people who have been asked for a passport have been those who have caught the ferry. |

Yes u mite get into Ireland but will hve difficulty going home r vice versa, Its easier if u have a passport as u can be refused entry without one |

No passport required as you are still in the U.K. but take your birth certificate, driving licence, or passport, strictly for I.D. purposes also you can cross what used to be the border into N.I. with nothing at all as there is now no check point but they use Euros in the south and pounds sterling in the north also they will not take N.I. money in mainland U.K. so change all your money back to English before you go home. |

My Mom didnt have here passport because she needed a visa.The manager said she needed one or if u went without one the other airport would know.And the Airline would be fined £19,000 |
