A visa to UK does not entitled you for automatic right to visit Dublin/ Republic of Ireland. As stated in the website of the Dept of Foreign Affairs:

"Please note that a Schengen or UK visa or residence permission is NOT valid for travel to Ireland. If you are a national of a visa-required country you will need to apply for an Irish visa in advance of travel to Ireland."

These is a list of countries of which its national does not require visa to visit Ireland on the same page (http://foreignaffairs.gov.ie/home/index.aspx?id=8777 ) so check there to see if you're eligible to visit without visa.

You can travel to Northern Ireland but not the Republic of Ireland. You will need a separate visa to visit here legally. However, there are no border checks between Northern Ireland and the Republic, so you could risk visiting without a visa, There are spot checks and the police are known to target people who don't look Ireland. If you are caught, you will not only be deported from the Republic, but you could lose your UK visa too. Only you can judge if it's worth the risk.

Yep as Ireland is a different country!

You most certainly do.

Ireland is a different country. You should check with the Irish Consulate office or the U.S. State Dept. Your visa should tell you what country it's good in and why. But I'm not sure if that allows for side trips or not.

no visa works anywhere
