Do the Irish welcome long-distant relatives from America?

...or do they feel unconnected or dislike for them?

Quackles
Long distant, I'd feel unconnected. No dislike, just unconnected. America and Ireland are very different places, from what I've seen, the people are very different. It'd just be weird. I'd like to meet them, but not have them come stay with me for a week :)

It depends on if you are likable or not...do you act like a haughty American?....Or are you laid back and down to Earth? Are you open to new ways and ideas?...This would be the prerequisite for ME welcoming someone into MY home.

cleofox32
It all depends, they would welcome you, but maybe it would be better to get a hotel near where they are from and then contact them, instead of just showing up at their door expecting to stay. we are friendly people and anyone would be delighted with relatives coming to stay, but with a bit of forewarning. You will get a warm welcome though

Azul
Yes they do they want you back

Well yeah..dont just show up out of the blue and be like hey were family..get in touch with them!..it also depends how many generations your going back...one thing the majority of irish dont like is when americans harp on about being irish because their ancestors were..so keep that in mind when your talking to them!

Gypsy
Would you welcome some stranger showing up on your door step and asking to stay? Contact these relatives before you go. See how they feel about meeting you. Plan to get a hotel.

Chrissy R
it depends. I'm sure they'll welcome you cuz my family is irish and they welcome, like EVERYBODY they've ever met into thier home. good luck!
