It's a difficult question because by law in the EU you don't need a passport to travel withn the EU but you must be able to identify yourself, so strictly seen since the UK doesn't have ID cards you must have a passport or some other acceptable ID with a photo.

The first answer you received is correct. But if you're flying from the UK to Ireland you will need some form of photo identification to be allowed to board the plane. A passport or driving license would do.

No, you don't...

Why When How
no it is a completely open border, so child smugglers, drug smugglers, fuel smugglers, come on in!!!

Not if you are a British or Irish citizen, other nationalities do need a passport.

will people plz read other questions before asking their own

and no - you dont need a passport

there is a common travel area between the UK and ROI therefore you dont need a passport - however if you are traveling by plane you will need some form of photo id and a passport is handy for this

You mean the Republic of Ireland. No such place as Southern Ireland, dear.

It's my understanding that if you're flying, you need a passport.
