hi you
no you don't once you have some form of photo id on you at check in

gervaisemcnabb
You need some form of photo ID. It doesn't have to be a passport.

younosygit
Whether you need a passport or some other form of photo ID to fly will depend on the rules of the airline concerned - check with them. This is separate from what you need to cross the Irish border, which in the case of British and Irish citizens is nothing. Since what is now the Republic of Ireland became independent in 1922, British and Irish citizens have NEVER required a passport to travel between the two countries as they form what's called the Common Travel Area together with the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man, however there are rumours that this might not last past next year as the UK government is reluctant to renew the arrangement because of the current anti-terrorist security theatre panic, which is ironic considering where the greatest terrorist threat to the UK in the last 40 years came from.

You didn't say whether you are travelling to the Republic of Ireland or Northern Ireland. I am from the Republic and travelling to the UK with my husband for the first time in a couple of weeks. My husband and I had to get a passport each.

yea i think so

If the republic then yes you do, photo id wont do.

Shiv
it depends on the airline, some will accept any form of photo id others look for passport best to check with airline

i know my bf recently flew to london he missed the plane home and had to wait for hours until a flight became available that he could use as he had no passport

Of course not. Nor do you need to fly. Just walk across the border between north Ireland ( UK) and south. No check points. Why fly?

Yes, you do need a passport if you are flying, if coming by ferry, then only photographic and proof of address is required.

toocute21
Yes you do need a passport.

No! you can use photo ID such as a driving licence, for children under 11 they do not need any thing!

dollymix (now geeky for a month)
You just need some sort of photo id. Passport is handy, because practically everyone has one, but a drivers licence could do.

obviously

Northern Ireland... any official photo ID will be allowed (driving licence, passport)

Republic of Ireland... only a passport will get you into the country

Republic of Ireland (South) - Yes, you definitely need to have a passport as it is a totally separate country

Northern Ireland - No, you do not need a passport because it is part of the United Kingdom

CampRock
i'm pretty sure you do because the UK is a different country

john
yes

No, as it is part of the UK, some airlines will ask for a photo ID though, like a drivers licence, if you are in any doubt, check with the airline.
