If you are a British citizen you Don't need a passport, (Kris I wish people would stop saying Yes because its totally untrue)

With ryanair and aer lingus you definitely do not need a passport (you'll have to check with other airlines for their policies) R/A and A/L accept a driving license. I fly to Gatwick quite regularly, Last time I flew there was 2 weeks ago with Ryanair and I used my Driving License, you dont go through passport control at the airport when landing, they just check that you have a valid boarding card. So trust me if flying with either R/A or A/L YOU DO NOT NEED A PASSPORT only a VALID PHOTO ID. Please ignore those who say that you do need a passport, but just double check with your airline if you're not flying with Aer Lingus or Ryanair.

Below link is Ryanairs terms and conditions explaining that passengers don't need a passport from UK/IRL to IRL/UK (read the third bullet point)

Yeah you do I went to ireland last year and needed it

Use Google it's not hard
I never had to show mine as it's currently part of the Common Travel Area, passport free zone. However, they're in the process of changing it. I would email or telephone your airline just to be on the safe side.

Yes you definitely do, you even need a passport to go from Manchester to Heathrow or Glasgow for instance.

New legislation has come in that you have to travel by passport, even from the UK to the ROI! You used to be able to travel with photo ID (Drivers licence) but you can't now.
