UK citizens do not require a passport for travel to Ireland - North or South. HOWEVER, if travelling by airplane you do require photographic identification which must be a photo driving license (the new one) or a passport. You will not be allowed to board a flight without such identification................

NUFC_4_LIFE
I dont think you do, if from the UK, you may need it to prove that you are who you say you are!

PS whats with all the americans on YA UK?

Flying from where?

Oh no!

Yes

bibounet0909
if you are american, i am not surprised by your question...
Here is the answer
If you are not a citizen of EU (European Union), then you need a passport, and may be need a visa on top.

toon_tigger
Depends where you are

If you are in the UK a Drivers Licence with a photo will be enough

If from US then yes - you need a passport

Not from the UK

cruisebloke
Yes you do. As of December 31, 2006, all US citizens leaving the United States to any destination will require a passport if traveling by air. No exceptions. Erin go Braugh

Try the Passport Adviceline - it's a 24hr helpline. (UK only)

No you dont, but take 1 for ID and also so you dont have to go back home because you cant prove who you are!

You do not need a passport to travel to and from Ireland, you will need some photo ID to travel, due to security situation, so driving licence would be fine.

If you are a citizen of the U.K. then you do not need one. However it is advisable to carry some form of I.D. If you are a citizen of any other country you do need a passport.

Yes, it's better to get one. Think that ID like a driving license might surfice, but better to get a passport. It's easier at customs !

tujunga
any photo id is ok to travel from the uk to ireland but double check with the company you are/ will be travelling with.

Bridget F
If you are going only from the UK to Ireland and back (no other countries involved) then you do not need a passport but you do need photo ID eg driving licence.

If you don't have a driving licence either, check with the plane or ferry operator in advance what ID is required.

pinkladxy
I know you would need a passport for the Republoic of Ireland (Southern Ireland). Not sure for Northen Ireland.

I would look into it though and double check.

theodwyer
1. you will not require a passport provided you are a U.K citizen, born there that is.
2.you will require a passport if you are a citizen of the commonwealth or are a U.K resident or a holder of a passport obtained by residency or asylum or some other means, you will also be required to obtain a visa with the exception of Canada, Austrailia and New Zealand for stays of less than 3 months.
A drivers licence or form of indentification establishing birth is all you require if you are in the first category.
There are immgration checks at all entry points , including the North of Ireland land border.
These were introduced 2 years ago because of the influx of Nigerians traveling to Ireland seeking asylum, Having outstayed their visa's in Britain and exhausted their asylum applications there.
Hope this helps

numar0137
Yes you do, it is in the European union but it is best to have one anyway or something with you address and photo on a uk driving licence may do.

If you're going to Ireland from the UK you don't need a passport but other than that I think you do.

Uncle Wayne
