No you don't. The UK and Ireland form a Common Travel Area, together with the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands, and you don't need a passport to travel between them.

Well, everyone else has given you the correct answer, but for the sake of it I will too- No, you do not need a passport to travel to England from Ireland.

On the boat i have never been asked for any ID ever. Although if you have a driving license, Provisional or full, take it with you as a goverment issued form of ID. Just in case.
