Not Irish, so take what I say lightly, but every culture adapts constantly. Ireland was just a relatively poor country that was left alone for a bit by the rest of the world - now it is experiencing growth again. I am sure that the Vikings changed the culture too when they integrated. All societies change.

Ireland has always been affected by outside forces and has changed due to their influence. Take the food - potatoes = not Irish. But now they are seen as the epitome of irish foodstuffs. Tea isn't Irish either. Irish culture was always influenced by other cultures. Look at the Church = Italian in origin.

To fight any change at all is to stagnate...then die.

The culture is changing - but it isn't lost.

Actually it lost a lot of its culture during the BRITISH reign in Ireland not the roman???? i don't know what you are talking about there. anyway when the English took over they banned the Irish language, Irish games and Irish customs. even in the schools the children got beaten if they talked a word of Irish even though it was their first language. the English succeeded in squashing out a lot of Ireland's culture but it is not all lost.

I think that our culture now has just changed that's all. The tradition of going to pubs, valuing family above everything and being extremely friendly and proud is just as strong as ever. we still eat lots of potatoes hah! Also they are trying to promote the irish language at the moment and it is working.

Ireland is rapidly changing. mostly due to the massive amount of immigrants, but it will never lose it's culture. the best proof of this that i can give you is to look at the Irish themselves. especially those who have left Ireland and their decendants. we are a people who are very very proud of our heritage, and we work hard to embrace it and keep it alive. every single bit of it. nothing or no one could ever change that. while we may accept, welcome, and embrace other countries and cultures, we will always preserve our culture and pass it on to our children.

It lost its culture when the Romans took it over hundreds of years ago.
