Recent polls in the irish republic showed a strong no vote for the north joining the republic.
We dont want it we got a good deal in 1922 which ment we got rid of a great deal of chav scum(paramilitaries) on both sides of the division. It is a racist place that is doomed to failure. I laugh at how the unionists looked down on the "poor" republic for years, now we have a better country and proved ourselves to the world and here come the unionists cap in hand for handouts(Shannon/ Aer lingus) They droped their anti republic stance as soon as cold hard cash was thrown at them. We got where we are without them Northern Ireland is another Limerick.
Last week a canadian tourist asked for a bus to derry and was told no such place exists, she was told this by the driver of a londonderry bound bus. The result was she had to spend 9 hours getting to derry when she could have got on the bus had the driver not been such a northern p r i c k.
That would never happen in the republic,
to quote a man i dont admire but did speak the truth when asked about northern ireland, "That failed experiment". C.J. Haughey. |

I think so, maybe in another 100 years or so, the whole map of Europe is changing, and has changed in the last 100 years, so who's to say what will happen in the future. For all we know if could be united under a federal Europe.
Or the people of the North just might want to vote for it themselves. (and why not, our largest immigrant population is the English),so they may as well join them.
As the reasons behind the 'troubles' fade (such as voting, housing and jobs rights for all, not just the Unionist part of the population) people tend to forget the reasons behind the hatred.
the question would be would the republic be able to afford the North at the minute, or do we leave the tax bill to the British and EU? Probably |

Yes, I do.
Right now its not economically viable as the norths econmy isnt as good as the rest of Ireland but I strongly believe there are more important things than money; like the freeing of our northern brothers and sisters from british rule.
If the likes of Ian Paisley piss off to England it will happen soon. :D |

I'm not sure if my or your opinion has any consequence. I think it's the majority will of the people which matters. If most people want it to happen enough, it naturally will happen eventually. If not, it won't.
As a race, humans are much "better" at segregation than reunification. Whether a nation is a "whole nation" or not has nothing to do with history and everything to do with a person's standpoint.
We're talking about people's identities and very deep-seeded attitudes which are hopelessly slow to change. If the reunification of Ireland happens, and I have no preference for whether it does or doesn't, I think it's a long way off yet. |

Ironically I think it was only a whole nation when it was under British rule.
I think that one day it will be whole and independent but only when North and South both look more like Britain, economically liberal and outward looking. |
