Kind of like the germans when they invaded poland!!!!!!1

They were the other side. What did you expect the Irish to do,
"ok guys the brits are on our side, >arnt they the enemy?,> i dont know?.
I need a lie down."

When you invade a country by military force the reprocussions will be felt for generations.
The brittish have now started Northern Ireland number 2 in Iraq, the people there will not forget either.

Irish history is not as black and white as catholic and protestant.

The whole problem in Ireland started way back when the British invaded, killed the locals and settled in the northern part. When you kill a lot of people they tend to resent it for a very long time.

they didn't take the wrong side, they WERE the other side!!!

The British army were originally sent in to keep the peace, they didn't go in on behalf of the protestant majority. In actual fact, their first priority was to protect catholics from protestant aggression.
Inspired by Martin Luther King, the Catholics had begun to stand up for their rights, like being able to vote, own land, get jobs and generally be entitled to the same rights as their protestant neighbours.
Up to Bloody Sunday, the British were seen as peacekeepers, but the shooting of 13 people on a civil rights march, turned the Catholics against the British, and that was the start of the war.

How can you take another side when you're the invader and the occupant ??

You have the side of the invader, the one who started it, responsible for the whole mess really....

okie 1
No I don't think they took the wrong side .After all how can you be wrong when you TAKE a country & put it's people in surfatude because your a pompus nation.
The only thing I don't understand is if the rest of the Brittish Empire(not on there own doing) has come down to the UK why it doesn't let Ireland be FREE!!!!!!!

I left school in the summer of 1969 and was destined to see nothing but violence from that day until now, Being forced to leave my country I lived under suspicion and harrasment from the british special branch for years,But we had our music and songs so things were not all bad, The British made a mistake treating Ireland the way they did but its in the past now and we have moved on..

livinhapi
YES THEY DID JUST LIKE THE AMERICANS TOOK THE WRONG SIDE IN THE MIDDLE EAST!
