Do you think the Recession in Ireland could turn into a Depression? |
I mean nobody is spending for obvious reasons. I cannot see how an economy can improve unless people put money into it. For examples shops, hotels, restaurants. But if you have no money you cannot spend it. It is a catch 22.
Also so many people can be unemployed in a country until there is not enough working to substain a healthy economy. Our economy is quite sick as it is. Some people saying that the 80s were worse. There are two major differences this time. They are that the banks are in serious trouble. Yes I know in the 80s people were dirt poor. I was a child at the time. There is one major difference this time in relation to the people. Many people are living off credit. Back in the 80s you lost what you had. This time some people will lose more because they living beyond their means. I do not live on credit and many of you may not either. But the fact of the matter is there are many people who do.
Will the Recession turn into a Depression?
And if not what will prevent this from happening? Additional Details That is why I am asking. Obviously nobody can foretell the future. There are endless discussions in the media about the Recession. There are also many discussions among friends and family. Just want to hear an other point of view. |

Well,our English teacher thinks so.....
I quote:
"For goodness sake, there has been so many depressions.....The LONG Depression,The GREAT Depression.....what are they gonna call this?? The RECESSION Depression?! Recession Depression,Depression Recession?!?!"
Ah,but t'was so funni the way he said it,not that there is anything funni about this Recession.....but hopefully it won't,though it's possible..... |

I think our Economy is strong enough to get over the recesion without it actually becoming a depresion
HOWEVER my big fear is the banks they are screwed and people could lose an awful amount The people in credit could have all their loan wiped clear while us in debit could lose our savings
(A bit of inide info BOI and AIB are both rated to be 50:50 to be nationalied but government wont have money to nationalie both and McCreevey coming out today saying Governments should not be allowed borrow to nationalise banks something is going to have to give) |

Will the Recession turn into a Depression? - I dunno, I'm not psychic
And if not what will prevent this from happening? - If anyone knew the answer to this then there would never need to be another depression ever again, so I think you are asking in the wrong place. |

in my opinion ireland is already in depression. For example when one used to have more than 3000 euros p/m and now only find himself with 800 euroes to leave from gov support, with debts on top of that. It is a disaster. I do think that the solution will take few years and no body can predict for now. I dont think any country is better alone is this time of recession. No country can say i am stronger than others in EU because we are all linked to each other whether we like or not. |

You are just regurgitating information that has been discussed for months now.
But the answer to your question is No. |
