Do you think the people from Roscommon can recover from the shock of Palin claiming ancestry from there? ?

Additional Details
Rossie, I feel your pain. LOL. My friend from Rooskey told me about this, he's feeling the pain, (not Palin)....

Well, Roscommon is similar to Alaska in many ways, so it's not really surprising - Lough Key is renowned for it's whaling, the area around Elphin has forestry and lumberjacks, Strokestown has a large Eskimo population, there have been repoted sightings of polar bears around Tulsk, a herd of moose is living on an estate in Boyle and the whole county smells vaguely of fish - surprising really, seeing as it doesn't have a coastline. And I hear the Specsavers in Castlerea has sold out of rimless glasses...

froggequene
No, some things you just can't over, the shame in this case would be overwhelming - I think the health board will need to deploy specially trained counsellors to help the good folk of Roscommon learn to deal with this trauma

bettyboo
Roscommon...Alaska, Roscommon...Alaska, yeah i can see the resemblance. Somehow I think the good people of Roscommon would rather claim Albert Reynolds as a their preferred politician!

Thank God his ancestor [not a typo - Palin certainly has balls] left the country else she could have been in the running for Tánaiste.

Mary Coughlan or Sarah Palin?
Which would you choose?

I can't even deal with her being from this country. God, Ireland, I am so sorry!

Well Rodge and meself are off to Roscommon straight away to see if there's any moose-shootin, hockey mom relations of hers knockin about the place.
We know we shouldn't, but we fancy the @rse off her!

Rossie
We'll never get over it, why oh why can't we have someone decent claim Roscommon ancestry...? <sigh>

Orla C
Most Americans already claim to be half-Irish. And if you've met some of them, that in itself is shocking enough. I'd say the people of Roscommon are well over it at this stage.

bluebell
Irish people are well used to hearing that emigrants settled in well overseas, and that some of their descendants became particularly significant. Think JFK or Princess Grace. So now it's Roscommon's turn. Maybe Sarah Palin will come and visit someday, and bring others with her. Could be just the boost Irish Tourism needs.
