hi Caroline.
Very difficult presently & not easy at the best of times.
2,000 people a week are currently losing their jobs, that's more than a quarter of a million unemployed from a relatively small population.
Bad times indeed.
I do not think it matters what type of job you are looking for, it is going to be difficult; I know plenty of people who have lost jobs & have little prospect of employment in the near term.
You can only keep trying, make yourself available, put your name down on waiting lists at local businesses; make it clear at government/social welfare offices that you are really keen to work. Try to ignore the pockets of nepotism that sadly exist.
Also, keep sending in the applications. GOOD LUCK!

Sorry, but jobhunting at the moment is a little like searching for rocking horse shite.

dollymix (now geeky for a month)
My sister has gotten her degree in engineering a couple of months ago and is graduating today! =]

The only downside is that there are absolutely no engineering jobs around (they claim there are, but where are they? the only ones we saw were for people who had years of experience). She is now working in an office with my auntie! =[ She's 22. Off to Australia, is a major possibility! =[ but there closing down now on Irish people coming in. A mixed blessing perhaps?

I am experiencing that the other way around. I think no one is taking on people at the moment long term.
