Does anyone know what some good colleges in Ireland are? (I'm from America and don't really know any)?

I'd like to go to college abroad for all 4 yrs, most preferably in Ireland but I'm open to suggestions for colleges in the UK. I would like to go to a pretty liberal school with art and english classes, and was looking in to Cork university but couldnt find much info. Does anyone know some good schools they could recomend? Thanks for any help you can give me!!!

Try Trinity College or UCD in Dublin (better than Cork) .... something in Galway would be nice too.

Trinity college Dublin (TCD) http://www.tcd.ie/

Dublin City University (DCU) http://www.dcu.ie/

Other colleges such as UCC (cork), Limerick and Galway....Dublin colleges are the best though

Do you mean University College Cork? That's part of the National University of Ireland, so if you look for that website, you might have more luck.

There are also the Institutes of Technology, and there is one in Cork also, simply known as Cork Institute of Technology.

However, the places have all been filled by now. You need to apply through a central organisation called the CAO, which is short for Central Applications Office. I believe the website is www.cao.ie, so send them an e-mail and they might be able to help you out.

Most friends and family have gone to either UCD or Trinity, so I can recommend them as being very good schools (based on the results). Trinity is fairly famous, I am surprised you haven't heard of it. It rates up with Harvard and Yale.

Universities in Ireland are very good, it will be hard to go wrong I'd think. If you are in school in the US your high school/college/University there should be able to give you information - avail yourself of student services - that's what they are there for. Most Americans I know enjoyed their time at school in Ireland - you will need to get the red tape sorted though - please involve your present school in the process- they can help.

Glasgow (Scotland/UK) has an amazing arts college that you should definitely look into - http://www.gsa.ac.uk/

Trinity College is the best Irish university. It is the only Irish university to make it into the top 100 university lists. It is Ireland's oldest university and the best international reputation. But you said "art" by that do you mean art as in painting and drawing or art as in history and literature etc.? 'Cause if it's the former they don't do that in normal universities

Most degree courses in the Republic of Ireland are 3 years, courses offered through the University of Limerick & it's associate college, Mary Immaculate College are 4 years

http://www.mic.ul.ie/

http://www.ul.ie/

Some universities in Ireland won't offer the combination you're looking for - Art colleges are separate to Universities & other colleges in Ireland so you need to look for one subject or the other. We don't do the mix and match or wide variety of classes. I did a Liberal Arts degree and in your first year you get to do 4 different subjects (depending on the timetable) and then in the 2nd year I had to pick the two subjects from those 4 I wanted to do jointly for my degree. This link leads to the Central Applications Website where you should be able to find the links to Irish institutions & look up courses:
http://www.cao.ie/index.php

In the Republic of Ireland when a course says Arts, it means Liberal Arts or Humanities which covers languages, history, philosophy, etc. You also need to look at what's called the Undergraduate courses offering Batchelor of Arts/Humanities/Liberal Arts etc.

The centralised application office for the UK is UCAS, they should have a wider variety of subjects & faculties, again this website will have links to the courses & institutions in the UK
http://www.ucas.ac.uk/

Having looked at UCC prospectus, their BA (Hons) Arts may offer what you're looking for. In the first year you do 4 subjects, so you could do the history of art & English:

I am starting my degree in psychology at Magee University in Derry, Ireland next week. Also, Charlie Sheen (actor) went to Galway University (NUI Galway) in the past couple of years. Also a good uni.
Good Luck.
