Does anyone know where I can get some gripe water in Limerick or any other county? |
I am desperate! I have a 5 week old daughter and I have tried every remedy and colic drops I could get my hands on and everyone is recommending gripe water which I know is very hard to get here. I don't know anyone who is going to England soon so I can't ask anyone to get it for me. She is due her 6 week check-up next week so I will be asking my doctor anyway but if anyone knows where and if I can get some in the meantime it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! |

Unfortunately it's been taken off the market here, although you can still get it in Boots in Northern Ireland. Some of the health food shops may still stock it, or Asian shops often carry it (In Dublin at least). There's an Asian shop on Henry Street/South Circular Rd in Limerick.
If you shop online, you can buy an alcohol free version here: http://www.thebabyorchard.com/resources/?p=22
or the traditional Woodward's formula here:

Failing that, you could try making your own. Some doctors recommend feeding 4oz of herbal tea made with boiled spring water. The usual ones chosen are chamomile, fennel, peppermint and dill, with ginger and a very small amount of bicarbonate of soda added. I would ask my doctor or a herbalist for advice if you're making your own, as the concentration may affect it's performance. The formula that uses alcohol is definitely the best one for relief for parents.
As an alternative, have you tried Infacol? |

the reason they stopped supplying gripe water was because of the amount of alcohol in it,All the babies were getting drunk, trust me for every spoon that i gave mine i had one myself,It was taken of the market years ago.you can get special colic teats that stop the air going into your babies stomach. |

For some bizarre reason you can't get it in most counties legally anymore. You can get it in counties Antrim, Armagh, Fermanagh, Tyrone, Derry and Down no problem though. |

Did you try different chemists? You might find someone with some still on their shelves. |

apparently there sellin it in Boots in Waterford now...I havent checked yet because i was given a bottle of it(someone brought it back from London) and the bottle is still practically full.
So try give your local boots a ring and see have they got it. It doesnt have alcohol in it anymore-ive checked the label, so i think it may come back onto the irish market again.
ring around to all your local chemists! |
