Don't people get really touchy when you ask a question about heritage?...?

...and take it very personally even though your only entitled to the heritage and culture of the country that you grew up in.?...and this whole 1/8 of a nationality thing is a bit ridiculous!

And some people get touchy when you suggest that there's more than one way of looking at identity, and get even touchier when you suggest that they have a very constrained and limited understanding of heritage/culture/identity.

What right do you have to say what culture or heritage an individual is entitled to? You can't 'own' or define a heritage - it, and culture, are constantly changing, there are no pedigree humans and we're all mongrels to some extent. Stop being so exclusionary.
