The Love Ulster Parade was originally supposed to be a march by the victims of IRA terrorist activities in Northern Ireland. Why would any humane person wish to halt such a thing? Instead of hurling paving stones and fireworks at the participants, a civilised Dublin should have held a candle-lit vigil to accompany the marchers all the way to the Dail. What happened was an absolute disgrace. The gurriers who attacked the parade in the name of a united Ireland certainly did little to advance their cause. What sane person would want to become part of such a bigoted and hateful Republic of Ireland? I was ashamed to be Irish that day. |

Love Ulster's first public manifestation was in August 2005, when its members symbolically reenacted the Ulster Volunteer Force's Larne Gun Running of 1914.
Nowt peaceful sounding about that.
Stands to reason it would have been seen as provocative. |

They weren't Orangemen, it was Love Ulster.
The riots were pretty much opportunistic looting by scumbags from Dublin, although there was a small amount of political motivation.
They had no choice but to let them march. |

Because when then march in their own areas in the north, it's a non-event (almost sad really if you've ever driven through a provincial town/village on a rainy Satuday evening in August). It seems like it's almost more entertaing to march in areas where they are not wanted, having run out of these in the North, Dublin was logical choice. Probably will want to march in Rome next? |

That would be an ecumenical matter |

The march never went ahead as a huge protest took place which was mainly by republicans and turned very nasty and scumbags ran riot
But in fairness although it was called love Ulster there was no need for them to come down with their big orange banners and marching bands they were going to over do it and naturally people reacted badly
If they came down just wearing armbands to remember and walked past quietly maybe taking a minutes silence it would have gone off peacefully but they were down to look for trouble |

The Questioner
 |
Because Irish people should be able to march anywhere in Ireland. As part of an All Ireland settlement in the future everybody will have to agree to respect the other sides traditions. However, there is no doubt that the problems on the day were organised by people who had no respect for law and order in any part of Ireland. Many of those charged were not even Irish. Many of those who attacked the march then went on to loot the shops, stone the Gardai, burn cars etc. How Patriotic was that. Jail terms of 10 years plus should have been handed down to them. Had the march been trouble free it would have proved the Loyalists trouble makers in the North of Ireland were wrong and helped those who were trying to draw both sides in Ireland together. |

Rory M - They were orange men. The march itself was called love ulster.
They were only there to stir sh!t, as usual.
Dublin city council had to give them a licence for it, how they got it, I don't know.
Yes most of the people in the riot were just scumbags |

The loyalists came down to make some trouble as usual. |

Why were the IRA terrorists shooting at these peaceful marchers not stopped. Shame on the government. Who wants to be part of such a shambles? |
