Dublin: New Year's Eve 2008, can anyone recommend a nightspot?

We're going to Dublin for NYE this year, but are not clued up about where is good to go. Happy either in lively pub/bar or nightclub. Not interested in pretentious celebrity spotting nightclubs would prefer somewhere like a big pub, maybe some live music, busy, beer on draft, open late, good atmosphere etc .. Any suggestions?
Thank you!
Additional Details
Obviously happy to pay for tickets in advance - just need some recommendations!

You could not go to a better place DUBLIN where every pub is lively especially on NYE, you would find it hard to find a pub that wasn't
Dublin is atmosphere
live music? yes by the pub load

Go,and enjoy the Irish hospitality

hey, i wud head to fitzimmons nightclub, temple bar. its a 3 teir club irish band on bottom floor dance on middle floor and smoking loft at top. really gr8 fun only thing i wud warn abt....... prices seem to go up as the night goes on, last time i was there i had wonderfull night but last round of drinks consisted of 2 wkd, vodka and red bull was almost 29euro that was at last orders. also jus across the road u can get a bite to eat an a taxi pronto! hope this helps u out, have a fab night werever u end up.

the mercantile bar dame street has 3 layers and close to where they have the countdown allso close to temple bar where most people go to be honest dublin not great on new year it can get messy so be carefull if you ever get the chance try amsterdam for new year ok enjoy yourself plus go on the rock tour bus goes arond dublin showing all famous music and art places

most Dubs don't go into town on NYE, I know I haven't, I tend to go to friends or family.
However most of the places already mentioned are good, just want to add, the Arlington on Bachelors walk, across Liffey from temple bar, its huge, and tehy always throw a good party.

Lots of pubs and bars fit your criteria , which ever you opt for mail them with your intention as with a lot of city bars NYE is ticket only

It's Outrageous!

There are lots of good places, but a wee word of warning. The prices are massively overpriced and you'll find that most ordinary Dubliners avoid going out at all that night. Mostly corporate events and job bashes.
