Dublin - Whats the nicest area to stay in?

I've stayed in Christchurch and it seemed quite nice, is this the best place to stay?

We want an area thats close to shops and restaurants but not too near rowdy nightclubs or rougher areas (lol - trying to word this so as not to sound like a snob!) - Basically the nicest part of central Dublin!

:)

Thanks

Oh and safety too! - Where's a nice safe area? I am not going with a big crowd of people its just myself and my partner

Of course your budget will determine the quality and location of a hotel in Dublin.
If you are on a tight budget it's probably best for you to go to a hotel website like Hotels.com, Expedia, Travelocity or others.
If you want to book directly simply access Irishhotels.com and take your pick.
Central Dublin means different things to different folks. The area of Dame Street, St. Stephen's Green and near Trinity University is near the main shopping street, Grafton St. But there is an abundance of taxis and buses in Dublin and staying half an hour away, say in a hotel similar to the Skylon on Drumcondra Road will cost less and still be in a nice neighborhood with many pubs, access to Grafton Street and O'Connell Street within a half hours time.
Good luck. You'll certainly enjoy Dublin; take it from this thirty-eight year visitor.

try Dublin 4, http://www.d4hotels.ie/pages/ballsbridge-inn.php?gclid=CMa587byvpkCFQQw3wodMyCe4w they have some good deals, its a pleasant walk into town, (about 20 mins walk) and loads of taxis, buses, or Rail transport

I agree with everyone saying South of the Liffey...

It doesn't take long to walk from the canal to the centre of the city so if you went somewhere along the canal (eg Hilton/Leeson Bridge Hotel/Portobello/Schoolhouse/Mespil) then you will not only be staying in a scenic and relatively safe (and quiet!) area but it is also a nice walk into town, with both the main roads from the canal into town have lots of nice things to look at along the way.

Stay away from Temple Bar and anywhere around Busárus because they are noisy, crowded, and sometimes dodgy areas!
St Stephens Green is a nice area to stay near and is very central too.

southside! In dublin the river liffey divides the city. northside is generally the poorer, chav(ier) area, not always tho. the southside is the posher area.

Christchurch is a pretty good area(on the southside) not the best tho. try looking around dublin 4 - tho it might be expensive - its the poshest part of the city(probably the country). try bewelys, D4 hotels,

you can get dublin bus into town, dublins small. you're never too far away from anything. I live 20 miles away but am in dublin all the time - sometimes just 30 mins commute. dont stay IN the city centre if you dont want noise and nightclubs etc. actually I dont no much about them cos I never need hotels but - the callaghan hotels look nice, and buswells, burlington is good
