North Great Georges St. is fairly central. Seeing as Dublin isn't the largest city ever in my opinion most accomodation within Dublin 1-5 is pretty much central.

I'm guessing you've booked rooms at a hostel called Eccleston or something like that. I stayed there for some time last year and as long as you don't mind walking a bit (it'll take ya round 10-15 minutes depending on traffic, red lights, people to walk to Temple Bar) it's good value for your money. The people working there are friendly and nice but Poles. Nothing wrong with Poles at all, but those working at Eccleston are not the best at speaking english so there were occassional communication problems. Also the hostel has no lift but like 8 floors. You should also be a bit carefull if you'll be out late some night. I wouldn't say there's any area in Dublin that's out right dangerous but walking alone at night (especially as a woman) in the area around North Greater Georges and any side of O'Connell St. is not recommended.

What is very recommended though, is having brunch at the Half Moon Bar in Temple Bar!

North Great George's Street is a good choice. It is a Georgian street and very pleasant. It's right on the edge of Dublin's new Chinatown.

Not sure what eight storey buildings the earlier replier means, all the buildings on North Great George's Street are four storey above basement.

Harrington Street is a bit out of the way.

North Great Georges Street is fine and close to O Connell Street which is the main street. However, some of the streets near it are a little dodgy. I always tell people that Dublin is no different to any other big city in that you have to be careful about walking alone at night and about obviously displaying your camera, money etc. Harrington Street is really a bit out of the way to the main area. If you can get a map it is near to camden Street. There is quite a nice hostel on the quays near O Connell Bridge and there is also one near busarus. Cant remember the names but you could do a search on the net for them. Also try www.discoverireland.ie or failteireland.ie - I think they might also cover hostel accommodation.

Hello! A word of caution......
North Great Georges Street is in a dodgy area. I would think twice about booking here. I have heard of some random attacks around the area- Mountjoy Sq, Parnell St, Marlborough St, the quays, etc are all nearby. Seriously, I think you should stay southside. Maybe I sound like a "snobby southsider", but it is better to be safe than sorry.

Harrington Street is "southside" in Dublin 8 (west Dublin). This is a bit out of the city centre., and Dublin 8 can be dodgy as well.

In sum, you shoudl stay closer in the city centre-- Avalon House is on Aungier Street, right in city centre. In fact you can take a short cut through York Street and be at St. Stephen's Green Shopping Centre in 5 minutes! Check out http://www.avalon-house.ie/

Also, there is a hostel in Temple Bar- Barnacles Hostel. I ahve not known anyone who has stayed there but it is right in the heart of Temple Bar.

If you want to stay northside, check out the Globetrotters Hostel and Guesthouse. It is near the Connolly Station and the Busaras (bus depot).

Hi, both are central, North Great Georges Street is nearer to the city center, but you could also walk from Harrington Street , in 20 mins.

North Great George's St is very close to the city centre on the North side of Dublin, near Parnell Square.Harrinton St is on the South side and continues as South Circular Road, close to Camden Street,
