County Wexford - must be a big House!

1798 - there never has been a big budget film done about 1798. This could be very good. Who will play Father Murphy (Arnie?)

Hmmmmm

I think it would be great to have a film of the Rebellion. It might give the world a better picture of Ireland as it fought for freedom.

Saving Private Ryan was a Tomato Ketchup Special, I don't ever need to see it again. I knew it was done in Wexford, as I knew a guy who was an extras in it. He was with the FCA here, and all those guys are commonly extras in films done here.

I too am from Enniscorthy.

I did not Know S.S was to do as you say.

My fear though of the film it will have the same historical Inaccuracies that 99% of historical films have.

hi! i live in gorey!! thats so random, i never new stephen spielberg ever visited wexford!! it wud be kinda cool though havin him film so close to home, but maybe u might see it as an inconvenience as you live so close to it do you?
it might bring some famous people over!!

Doc
I'd be interested in seeing it, but I really hope he'll make an effort to be as historically accurate as possible. That's a rare thing in American cinema...as witness the action-packed but woefully inaccurate "Braveheart". A Scottish folklorist friend of mine still hasn't forgiven the filmmakers for that one...errors any Scottish schoolboy could spot!

I'm American, but I am fairly familiar with Irish history, especially the War for Independence, the Civil War and the Troubles. Obviously the best films on these subjects are Irish-made--I give high marks to "Michael Collins" and the recent "Wind that Shakes the Barley".
Do you know of any existing films that cover the '98 Rebellion? I think the period is more neglected in cinema and in popular imagination because more-recent events were so much more dramatic and colourful--it's hard to match the Easter Rising for excitement.
BTW, where is this house that he's named "County Wexford"? Is it actually in Wexford, or is that just the name for one of his American properties?
