"Thank God we're surrounded by water"
I don't remember who sang it.
"The sea, o the sea, is grá geal mo chroi,
Long may it flow between England and me,
It's a sure guarantee that some hour we'll be free,
Thank God we're surrounded by water." |

It's a tie between 'Glorio the Bold Fenian Men' and 'Only Our Rivers Run Free'. But either way, I prefer to think of them as historical documents now. |

There's a couple of people here have mentioned The Sash...what's wrong with listing that? I know it's an 'orange' song but it's still rebel none the less for that.
Are you just asking for Catholic, Republican, Nationalist songs, is that what you mean? If so can you be a bit clearer in your question please.
I find your comments quite bigoted. I certainly don't claim to be British but I do fear that some of the things you say - your cursing and bigotry quite wrong. Consider yourself reported. |

Couple of tangents here...
"Thank God We're Surrounded By Water" was written, I believe, by one of the Behans (either Brendan or Dominic). Definitely not American.
What's wrong with saying that "The Sash" is a rebel song? It celebrates the defeat of the King James, King of England. Let us not forget that The Battle of the Boyne was the last time that the King of England lost his crown on a battlefield.
My favourite Irish rebel song? "Roisin Dubh" |

The Sash is great.
Oooooooooooooooooo all getting up on your high horses. ALL Irish Rebel songs must come from one section of the community. The Sash IS a rebel song, just because the rebels aren't your particular flavour shows up your bigotry. |
