Your nationality?

A common travel area is in existence between Ireland and the UK (including the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man).

The Common Travel Area means that there are no passport controls in operation for Irish and UK citizens travelling between the two countries.

You must, however, carry an acceptable form of photo-identification:
A - driver's licence
B - national ID card
C - Garda ID

Southern Ireland is a foreign country so you need a passport. N. Ireland being British like Scotland is passport frree so no problems there.

Check it out with airline first , its strictly photo id , and they can be very fussy about what they class as id

gu2_ad
You require a passport to travel to Ireland. Photo ID like a driving licence is not accepted

It is advisable to take your passport - Ireland is obviously not part of UK.

pablo123
Doubt it, any international travel requires a passport

Driver licence is fine if your British or Irish , I fly over to Liverpool from Dublin and occasional Manchester with Aer Lingus and Ryanair a couple of times a year, I only ever bring my driver's licence and I've never had a problem

You need official photo ID, such as a national identity card (we dont have them), a photo driving license, or a passport. If you are a sailor you can use your sailors card as well.

Best check with the airline first, they are the ones who have a policy of what is acceptable and what isnt.

For British and Irish citizens who are travelling on flights to/from the United Kingdom to/from the Republic of Ireland (Common Travel Area), a valid driving licence with photo is acceptable photo ID. Passengers who are citizens of other countries travelling on these routes must present a valid passport (with visa if applicable) or a National Identity Card issued by the government of a European Economic Area (EEA) country.

TheOracle69
I think it has to be a valid driving license so I would check with the airline you want to travel with, that will be your best bet.

Yes you certainly can, I have done it for years because my passport was out of date and I never got a new one.

if you fly within the british isles a full photo licence will suffice, if you fly anywhere else you need a passport
