I don't have to ask cos I already know.
I was in England in July for a couple of weeks. I had to have a passport as I don't have any other form of photo ID like a driving licence for example.
I am from the Republic of Ireland. |

Maybe it's beacuse it's more likely for us to travel to the UK than for them to come here? We pop over for racing, Premiership matches, decent shopping, musicals, some flights to far away places that don't leave from Ireland, jobs, study, to visit relatives, so on and so forth.
Sure, the UK is like some big entertainment centre for us.
Anyway, we Irish are renowned for our literary achievements - one of these is basic literacy and the ability to read the terms and conditions on our travel documentation. |

More, I'd say at least once a day. It must be the most-asked question in this section. |

Once or twice or a hundred times. You'd think they'd know now |

No, we seem to be able to grasp the fact of what we need to travel.
EDIT- twobig on, you are wrong, YOU do need a passport to fly into the UK, , only photo ID on the ferries is required. |

Irish Citizens do not need a Passport to travel to the UK. They may have to show an official form of identification and will have their passport or Driving licence to confirm their identity. The have in common with UK no ID cards.
To fly they must have photo ID to get on a plane but a student Card will do |

Cavalier got it spot on yet gets thumbs down. As she said of course as Uk is a different country to Southern Ireland. N. ireland being british can travel freely within UK. |

Southern Irish do, as it is outside UK. Northern Irish don't as it is part of UK |

The English would say, the reason is that the Irish can't type. |
