Housing and unmarried mothers Ireland + UK?

I'm not married,I don't have any children, I work and have worked since I was 16years old. I live in rented accommodation because I can't get enough money together for a deposit on a house. I'm saving very hard, but it's going to take some time. My question is. Why do unmarried mothers with a child or children get housed and people like me don't get anything,I pay my tax and do what Im supposed to do, but I'm not housed,is this fair?

I understand where you are coming from, they do house some people like you, but as you know it takes years, and as every single girl has another baby so you slip down the list again, they put the welfare of the child first.

the council DO house people who dont have children

Girl Demented.
first of all just because you have a child you do not get housed straight away, you still have to wait a very long time, although you are priority over single people, because its the welfare of the child thats important. Would you like a situation where children weren't the priority you would feel very different when you have your own children. Also, the area's where most of these families are housed are not the most desireable and there are a lot of options for working single people these days such as affordable housing schemes, and co-ownership with the council.

I'm not inclined to think it's fair either, but keep on saving, once you have enough for your downpayment and any other initial costs, once you're in there, it's just like paying rent every month. At least you are more likely to have something in 20 years.

Tough isn't it? Not fair either, is it? It's about time the relevant governments got a bit tougher on those with kids.
