How can I have a good time in Ireland this July?

I will have a layover in Dublin on my way to Birmingham to visit relatives. I plan to stay about five days or so, but I will be by myself and don't know anyone. How can I ensure I have a good time without feeling lonely or out of place as a single female traveler?
Additional Details
Not sure it matters, but I am a single black female traveler.

Okay, here's July stuff to do from the Frommer's Ireland 2005 book.
Battle of the Boyne Commemoration.
It's the marching season for the Irish Protestants. They are really into it. Mainly in the North, but I'm sure there are events in the Republic, too. Here's the contact Info.
House of Orange
65 Dublin Road
Belfast BT2 7HE

Oxegen. At Punchtown Racecourse in County Kildare.
It's a music festival, mainly rock. http://www.ticketmaster.ie .

Galway Arts Festival and Races. It runs for 2 weeks, so you've a good chance of getting there in July. http://www.galwayartsfestival.ie

Lugnasadh Fair at Carrickfergus Castle. In County Antrim, Northern Ireland.

Eat, drink & be merry. Stay in hostels to meet other travellers. Do one of the walking tours around Dublin for orientation and then smile at everyone you wander past. If you want company, pick a pub, sit at the bar with a pint of guinness and a crossword...... you'll proove too intriguing to pass without a word.

P.s. guinness is low in fat, only 98 calories per glass & full of iron, filling too so you can skip the snacks!!!

book a tour, such as the paddy wagon tours, a lot of single travellers do this, so you could see the whole country in a few days with others in the same position as you.

have a good time

I'm going to Wexford, Ireland next week for an opera festival. Wexford is about 3 or 4 hours south of Dublin. I had a really good time there. The old opera house is being refurbished I think and this year it'll be at Castle Johnstown. There are many excellent restaurants, my favorite is The Lobster Pot, it's about 10-15 minutes out from the town. We went there twice it was so yummy. If you like real yummy seafood, I recommend it. Lobster and Guinness....heavenly! It's not low fat, but who cares you're on vacation! And how many times are you in Ireland???

stay overnight in a castle or two - drink lots of guiness - eat lots of pub food - and chat with a lot of peeps in the pubs.

The whole island is only about 150x300 miles. In 5 days you can see a few things. Staying in Dundalk, you would be equidistant to Dublin and Belfast and should cost a little less. They have plenty of B&B's as well. If time permits, the Giant's Causeway (north) is brilliant. Dublin offers many nice clubs (temple bar is a good area) To the east (about 150 miles) Galway is simply beautiful. Hire (rent) a car and have fun. Ireland and it's people are awsome.
