Well, the good news is Mexico is a Schedule 1 country according to Ireland's department of Foreign Affairs, which means you don't need a visa just to get in. However, you probably can't stay for 6-8 months without a visa. I know US citizens can only stay for 90 days without some kind of visa or special permission. I think that rule applies to all Schedule 1 countries as well. When I had to stay for just over 100 days for research, I had to go register at the local immigration office. So, if you want to stay that long, I think you have three options:
- Go over as a student on a student visa. Just being a student in Mexico isn't enough for that, you need to be enrolled as a student in Ireland as well to get the student visa. There's information on getting a student visa here: http://www.inis.gov.ie/en/INIS/Pages/WP07000018
- Get a job in Ireland and go over on a work visa (info on that here: http://www.entemp.ie/)
- Call the nearest Irish Consulate to you and ask about your options if you don't want to get a student or work visa but still want to stay in Ireland for 6-8 months. They might tell you that you can do what I did and just register with the immigration office in your main city of residence sometime within the first month of your arrival. You'll need to prove that you actually do plan to leave Ireland (a return plane ticket would be enough) and that you can support yourself without a job over there (be prepared to bring copies of things like your bank statements and the bank statements on your main support network -- for example, if your parents are willing to send you money if you need it, bring copies of their bank statements too).
Whatever you do, do NOT take the advice of the post above me who suggested going over and just staying illegally. I really don't think the possible penalties are outweighed by the possible gains, especially when it's really not that hard to just register legally and be worry-free for the rest of your stay. |

I suggest contacting the Embassy of the Republic of Ireland nearest to you and asking them about it. |

You will need to contact the Irish Embassy in your country and get all the information that you require. There will be checks at all the airports and ports, and if you do not have everything right, you could be sent home.
By the way Teddy, Ireland is not part of the U.K. |

probably the worst time to be thinking of coming to Ireland right now. Unemployment is rising daily, we have 50,000 non nationals unemployed and the situation is likely to get worse before it gets better. Maybe you ought to wait for s while. |

suggest that like all of the UK, you need to find a job before you go, because like everywhere they are suffering the downturn of the credit crisis. |
