Most landlords aren't registered. They want cash in hand so the taxman doesn't find out. |

10 points to Rob. Can you remember signing something when you originally moved into the property? Something that required your PPS number. To be 'registered', he must register the tenancy which is valid for 3 years, with the Private Residential Tenancies Board, also known as PRTB. And as rob said, you will receive a letter confirming the tenancy, along with the landlord receiving one also. You can go online and see if the property is registered, along with your landlord. Question: Why do you want to see if its registered? If the property is not registered, the tenant will have more rights (landlord and tenancy Act, 1995), hence its in the best interest to have the property registered. With regards to him being registered with Revenue, probably not, but you should put in for rent relief with the Revenue and should it be the case he's not registered, they'll be on to him pretty soon. |

Anyone who has a house available for rent can be a landlord. It is the tenancy itself that needs to be registered - not the landlord.
If your landlord has registered the tenancy, you will have been asked to complete the form and the Private Residential Tenancies Board will have sent you a letter.
You can check registered tenancies here, but the list is fairly old (June last year):

If you have his name and address, he should be registered with the Revenue Commissioners, who are the tax authorities in Ireland. You can find the numbers for the Revenue Commissioners on www.goldenpages.ie, phone them up and they'll point you to the right department. |
