just a couple of points. 1 We didn't vote to let the free travel within the EU happen. Bertie's crew did that. they were warned by economists and various other experts not to allow it, but went ahead anyway. You would know its not their jobs at risk from immigrants.
2 They not only take jobs no one else wanted they take every bloody job for lower wage than an Irish worker therefore driving down wages for everybody
3 They hang around in large groups drinking, giving abuse and spitting etc at anybody walking past, making places no go areas.
4 They get priority for housing and everything else, this government should be ashamed of themselves. there is even talk from ministers about changing which side of the road we drive on to suit them, it will reduce the accidents they have and f~~k the Irish driver.
In my opinion and its an opinion that is becoming very noticeable is that the whole bloody lot of them should be sent home and good riddance to them!!!!!!!

I think it's a bad thing...immigration itself isn't but the numbers coming over is crazy. The Irish government should look after its own population first. It's unfair that an Irish person is on a housing list for years then their name is put down because a foreign family have arrived&take preference. Go into any social welfare office and you'll notice a lot of immigrants who get way more benefits than any Irish person would. It's also harder to get a job in places like shops or hotels and students who traditionally took part time jobs are now finding there's very few available. So yes in general it's a bad thing especially for people on the lower end of the wage scale...the rich won't notice either way!

annalisia, just about says it for me. In ten years we have become swamped with immigrants from all over Europe. (Over Kill.) I am not and never was racist. But as an individual just speaking from my own point of view, I could change overnight, and just as drastically as the population of Ireland has changed in just a decade re: the volume per head of capita. It's just unreal / frightening really.

Here in the US we have the mexicans tring to take over! They have their babies here & have our tax money pay for them! I know it is our fault, but if it was up to me I'd send them all back!! Do don't learn to speak english & go to our school & can't speak our language, then the teachers have to teach them english so the english speaking students fall behind because these mexicans don't respect our goverment, just want a free ride!! & The goverment lets them on my dollar!!!!! sad!!!

***EDIT*****
& For the Troll who said "At least they are not making you learn their language" If you move to any country YOU should learn their language!!!! If you wish to speak your language stay where you are!!! I hate driving in the US & seeing spanish signs, or chinese(sp?), or indian signs!!!!! If you live in the country SPEAK their language!!! OR GO HOME!!!!! Quit sucking up our tax money our schools if you don't like our country!!!! WE DON"T want them anyways!!!!!!! They are uneducated, & fill our strees with crime!!!

Just please keep Ireland "Irish", other wise it may Loose it's charm. Don't let them change laws & policies just to suit the new comers Ireland is a Catholic country I hope it stays that way.

when you think of the men that fought for this country years ago, and look at us we are giving the country away, they would turn in their graves!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I should be doing something else

I don't mind people coming over here as long as they realise that they have come to a Christian country and accept our laws, traditions and lifestyle.
We seem to be bending over backwards to change things to accommodate them and it's only going to be a matter of time before we completely lose our national identity.
I heard talk a while back about banning Xmas trees from being displayed in govenrment buildings in case it offended non-Christians - WTF?
Obviously I'm not saying on entry immigrants should be made to change their religion, but they should embrace our culture and traditions instead of expecting us to change to suit them - While in Rome and all that...

Ireland's always been the subject of immigration- Vikings,Picts,Welsh Celts,British--get used to it hun
As with the rest of them, some of the current immigrants will intergrate and intermarry but eventually most will go home in the future

In 1848 to1852 the Irish people lost over one million people
in the famine. They put the prices up of corn so as they could not afford them. The deserted empty houses told there tail and they went to America on the cattle boats.
Now their are fifty million people of Irish descent in America, one in three soldiers of Irish decenter. From the little country called IRELAND they came in droves and they settled down.

I'm American, but I love Irelands culture. My family is planning on visiting for the summer. I think itd be a shame if Ireland changed anything about the culture to suit the immigrants. Especially since they obviously liked something about it to have moved there in the first place.

Its sorta the same thing in America though. We have sooo many immigrants, which is of course good, but alot of the times they will give jobs and educational opportunities to immigrants *except the Mexicans for some reason* before they will to the natural born Americans. I dunno, I just really like Irelands culture and history and would hate to see any of that changed.

-Edit-I think its crap that people say Mexicans want a free ride. If they did, they wouldn't be working for well under minimum wage, doing jobs that lazy people in our country won't. Everyone wants to block off the Mexicans, but nobody worries about the Canadians, the Indians that are coming over and taking over the hotels, Arabs, or anything else. I thought America was supposed to be a "melting pot" I guess not since everyone wants to kick out everybody but the white people huh? And if we should take down the signs in other languages, then other countries that don't speak english, should take down their english signs, eh? Anyway this was supposed to be a question about Ireland, not how stupid Americans are anymore.

i think its a good thing. firstly if you go to any country in the world, ill bet you bump into some irish people.
And a lot of immigrants are doing jobs that irish people wouldnt want to do in the first place. I know some families who came over from kosovo a few years back to escape persecution, and they went to college over here and now have great jobs, and pay plenty in taxes.
Irish take advantage of the welfare system too you know. Plenty mothers pretend to be single mothers to get more in benefit...i work 40hrs a week, someone i know works half that but still earns more than me as they are wrongly getting extra benefits. So that reason of cheating the system shouldnt be used as a reason to be against immigration.

The children of the current immigrants will soon grow up, join the workforce and again contribute to taxes. If a child of an immigrant grows up to be a world class sports star representing ireland, wont you be proud?

Also EU laws allow citizens to freely move around the EU. Ireland voted to be part of this. We have benefited from the EU lots, so its time to give back

At least the newcomers aren't demanding YOU learn their language like they are back here in the U.S.

the irish populated half the world so chickens come home to roost.
