Old Ireland - pre technology, TV, internet, even pre electric light (rural electrification only began in 1954, continued into 1960s). Rural communities working together in meitheal system. Self-sufficient farm living. Many children leaving school at 14 to start working, very little opportunity of third level. Many emigrating. Many houses without indoor toilet or telephone. Transport by bicycle or pony and trap.

New Ireland - money from Europe. Better roads. Modern technology.
Think in terms of mechanised industry, dairy farming, up-to-date hospital services, internet = better education. Instant communication with far ends of the globe. Community spirit different - many people not knowing their neighbours. Farming largely mechanised - no need for meitheal. Most young people at school to age 18 or third level. Greater variety of foods in shops. Possible one or two foreign holidays a year. Higher standard of living in homes. One or two cars per family.

Depends on what you mean by 'old' Ireland. Pre-Norman? That's what I understand by old Ireland.

What are you talking about?

Old Ireland was one country until the English split it in two. Therefore the new Ireland is two different countries.

Alan M
Old Ireland was united under British rule and people were happy. Now with the forced separation in modern Ireland people complain.
