If it's rhetorical then it doesn't need answered. If it is yourself then the proper answer would be 'yes, who else would it be?'

I simply say 'yes'.

Queen of the Stone Age
Just smile and say hi, how are ya, etc ... they're just expressing surprise to see you, maybe its been a while .. but you dont need to answer that yes, it is you, they're not being thick just friendly

i would say,"it is indeed"

Crazygirl
In relation to a Rhetorical question you could say:

"Of course I am myself, who else can I be but myself"

xzerix

How about... "As far as I know, I've *always* been me" ?

Rhetorical questions are questions that you already know the answer to when you're asking it. So there's no need to answer.

I'd say "it is"

Misty Blue
Sure it's nobody else.

!TreeHugger!
Well, rhetorical questions are questions that don't need answering,as our English teacher always told us.....
"Ah lads,I'm getting old old,am I??"
"Yes sir,you are!!"
"But that was supposed to be a rhetorical question.....but,thanks!!"
But in what context do you mean?? Like,"Is it yourself??" can be interpeted in many ways.....

Pingu
Just say 'Oh Aye, Tis Indeed'

Hannah
The definition of rhetorical question is a question without an answer
so you dont actually need to answer a rhetorical question

I have never been asked "Is it yourself?" Not sure what you mean.

People sometimes say "Is it for yourself?" meaning "Are you buying this to use yourself, or it is for someone else?" - probably they offer to gift wrap it if it's for someone else, or take the price tag off so the other person won't know how much you spent on their gift (which is considered rude).

Might also mean "Is it you?" although I'm not sure when anyone would need to ask that.

If this is what you mean then it's not a rhetorical question because you are supposed to answer. More context would help - who said this, and when?
