Well for a start Ireland is an island with two seperate countries on it - the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. Northern Ireland is part of the United Kingdom.
Laws are very similar with the English bringing in their laws to put down the Irish nation - look up Penal Laws for instance - and banning the common sense of Brehen Law. Henceforth leaving the Republic with a legacy of poor English law.
The people's are quite different with those on the island of Ireland having more sense of self worth, independance of thought and and a damn sight more humour than those on the island of great Britain. |

Fundamentally people and laws are the same.
Some differences are:
Currency
Abortion is legal in Britain but not available in Rep of Ireland or NI
Idiot of the East - you certainly are aptly named, dear. |

Irelaand laws are quite similar to the UK, as theyre based on the common law of England. There is some differences - such as no references to the queen.
When ireland joined the EU, new EU laws were included, but with the Uk being part of the EU as well, they probably took on the same laws too. |

Not as different as you might think, because of English occupation here for many centuries, and because many Irish went across the Irish Sea to find work and brought back elements of their experiences with them. As a result, English is still the main language, we inherited English law although there are distinct differences now, and many of our stately houses date from that period. We are rightly proud of our Victorian and Georgian houses, they are an elegant part of our past history, but of course they are not indigenous.
The more fascinating parts of our history go back much further, and we have our Irish language, music and dancing, very distinctively different from our UK neighbours, and still very strong in parts of our country. And of course Gaelic football and hurling, national pastimes here with a huge following.
The Brehon laws were much fairer in lots of ways, but they too belong to the past now. Our children leave school with a much broader education than A levels, I think our system is excellent and second to none. Other recent changes have come with technology and Europe, particularly our currency, distance in kilometres and weights in kilograms.
But all of this is windowdressing. Underneath, we are really very similar, though not identical. |

There is a hugh difference between Ireland and the UK (Britain).
Different history, culture, interests, sports, language and laws.
In Ireland, the head of state is elected by the prople. In the UK the head of state inherits the position.
Ireland has a written constitution, the UK does not.
Ireland's culture is a mix of Celtic, Nordic, Gaelic.
The majority culture in the UK, English, is an Saxon culture (When the saxons moved into England, the Celtic culture there went into decline).
Ireland created sports like Gaelic football and Hurling,
UK has created sports like rugby, cricket.
Legal Tender in the UK is the Pound,
Legal tender in Ireland is the Euro.
Family law and criminal law is different in both countries. So are immigration laws, visa requirements.
The official language of the UK is English,
in Ireland it's Gaelige and English. |
