Your typical, insecure loser.

How is the Scottish and Irish accent different?

I know that they are different. But HOW are they different?

Look, I really don't mean to sound ignorant. I just want some facts.

The Irish accent is generally softer and sounds a bit like singing.
The vowels are quicker and softer.
There are about 30 different Irish accents.
Look at you tube.

You need to come to Ireland, travel around, and listen to how the people talk, the accents vary from region to region. The same with Scotland.

im irish, nd i was in scotland there last month for a weekend, irish accent is very very different, like the irish accent of the north of the island and of the south of the island and the capital, you would swear they were from 3 different countries! you cant really explain it man, you need to hear it, try youtube or something, were i am from in ireland, tipperary, we say well instead of hello and no one else in the country gets it, they just think were idiots!

It's really hard to pick a typical Irish or Scottish accent. Both have soft accents and harder accents. A good comparison would be a Glaswegian accent http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IMnKPnPhhYw&feature=related
and a dublin accent: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cSKcDT9DjZ0&feature=related

You just need to travel around the country and see for yourself. It's difficult to explain.

And hippo: I say well instead of hello and I'm from Meath and people understand me!=] They say it in a load of other counties as well!=]

I think that the irish lilt is soft and rolls off the tounge, where the scottish sound more gruff and gutteral, (although no less sexy) to me there is usually a very clear difference in tone of voice. Sean Connery or Gerard Butler on you tube can give you an idea of Scottish speach patterns while Irish examples could include Colin Farrell or Pierce Brosnan. Have Fun!

it's like anywhere else in this country, or in the world. There are accent variations in my little state of NH, north, south, east, west. So just the same, there are variations in the irish accent depending on which part you're from, and variations in the scottish accent. The scottish and the Irish accent also come from different languages, so the accents are different. Like everyone else said, it's something you have to listen to to really "know" the difference.
