There are 2 Countries, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

And 32 counties 6 of which are in the North and 26 in the Republic.

____________-

Ashlene: Ireland is divided. I live in NI as well and hold an Irish passport. Northern Ireland and the Republic have been separated so long that they are culturally different countries. Generally people in the Republic do not consider the North their country just like people in Britain do not consider NI British.
We are not ruled by England and neither are Scotland or Wales, we all rule ourselves but NI has it's own identity yes we share some things with the Republic but that's not the same thing as having a united identity.

The Island of Ireland is divided into 2 different countries both literally and figuratively.

_______________--

NO SURRENDER: Nothing lasts for ever. I believe once Scotland becomes independent (which is going to happen sooner rather than later) the existence of the UK will be put in to question. The desire for Independence is growing in Wales and if they were to leave two countries hardly make a kingdom.

Northern Irish independence is not as far away as people think whether we get to choose or not.

Pleasing Vacations
It has 32 counties.

kt
there 32 COUNTIES in the whole of ireland .

siog24
There is the Republic of Ireland(which we usually just refer to as Ireland), then there is Northern Ireland (part of the UK)

when the sun goes down
there are two countries
Northern Ireland(1/6 of the island and part of the UK)
Republic of ireland(5/6 of the island and ruled by itself)

if you meant COUNTIES then there are 32 in the whole island
(6 in northern ireland)
(26 in the republic)

Why When How
2, Northern Ireland and Republic of ireland.

Why my fellow countrymen don't realise Ireland is an ISLAND and NOT a country (officially speaking) I don't know.

Honey
Ireland IS the country....

If you mean counties, there are 32.

Ireland is divided in two. The Republic (the South) and the North which is a part of the United Kingdom.

Ireland is a country, dear. It's divided, in that there's the Republic of Ireland in the South, and Northern Ireland in the North-East. Northern Ireland is still officially part of the United Kingdom.

I don't think Daisy's question was "How many countries would you like to have in Ireland?", so why all the jaded political clichés?

Fact: The island of Ireland IS divided. Eire (or the long-winded 'Republic of Ireland) is an independent democratic nation that covers all of the island apart from a small province in the north-east corner.

That section is not a country but PART of a nation, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Neither is it Ulster as it is often called by Unionists. Ulster has 9 counties while Northern Ireland has 6.

Great Britain is our neighbouring island to the east and that island is made up of Scotland, Wales and England. The island is GB, not UK as many people call it.

Ireland is one country made up of 32 counties.

There are 32 counties in Ireland altogether. Six of these are in Northern Ireland and 26 are in the republic of Ireland.

Northern Ireland and the Republic.

Northern Ireland is part of the UK. And since the defeat of the IRA that is how it will remain.

Hello Kitty/ Ashlene: what are you bleating about?

Lamh Dearg Abu

*SoulJacker - There is no evidence that a majority of people, in any part of the UK, are in favour of independence.

I do not think that the dissolution of the UK is as imminent as you suggest.
